#FauxOnTheGo: Portland Style

That’s a wrap, for now, Portland! Thank you for being such a lovely place for us to Pop-up! We aren't sure if it was the crisp weather, lush landscape, surplus of vegan food, or the kind folks we were lucky enough to cross paths with- there’s certainly something to be said about the Pacific Northwest, and Portland, you’re pure magic.

Have you been to Portland? We thought we’d unpack our weekend and leave those of you who’ve never been with a little list of mentionable places to seek out while you’re in the City Of Roses. We’ve also picked the brain of PDX locals and fauxgerty pop-up partners Tonya (of The Moptop) and Natalie of Natalie Joy Jewelry to share some of their favorite places to eat, drink, and shop around the city.

What do you love the most about living in about Portland?

Tonya: The unique shops and restaurants. It's super inspiring and refreshing to see. It's impossible not to explore a neighborhood of Portland and not feel inspired or a sense of community and I love that about it. It's also such a great city when it comes to sustainability which is important to me as well.

Natalie: What I love most about Portland is that it feels like a small town. You can have the perks of a big city, and be in the woods in less than 30 minutes.

Where are your favorite places to catch brunch or have a girls day?

Tonya: There are so many options I’ve heard of and haven't been! Broder Nord is really good but I've heard great things about Tusk!

Natalie: An ideal girls day would start with brunch at Sweedeedee (their smoked trout is my fav), followed by an afternoon getaway to Naked Falls in Washougal, WA. If the weather isn’t suitable for swimming, I’d be more than happy to spend the day shopping at Palace, and grabbing a late lunch at Luce (their octopus salad makes me cry).

Fauxgerty: We had a perfect afternoon stroll through The International Rose Test Garden after cold brew + avo toast from Upper Left RoastersIt was one of those idealistic slow mornings that really set the tone for our introduction to the city.

Where would you go to remedy a sweet tooth?

Tonya: Pips donuts! The best donuts in Portland!

Natalie: I’m not a sweets person, but when I get that rare craving I want the waffle from Expatriate covered in sesame ice cream.  It’s insane.

Fauxgerty: Stroopwafels from Prince Coffee, Vegan ice cream from Virtuous Pie (try the cinnamon crunch flavor... oh, and they deliver- vegan pizza, too!)

Favorite coffee spot?

Tonya: Stumptown (a Portland classic) Coava, Prince, or Good Coffee.

Natalie: Heart is my favorite for espresso, but there’s a Good Coffee down the street from my house and their matcha lattes are super tasty.

Fauxgerty: Prince coffee really made sure we were caffeinated before our event! Upper Left Roasters has an airy layout ideal for meetings over brunch, and Never Coffee Lab has an intriguing beverage menu.

Where would you go to grab a drink with your gang?

Tonya: Angel Face is beautiful and I also love Sweet Hereafter.

Natalie: Angel Face for a fancy cocktail, and Lay Low for a divey drink.

Fauxgerty: Belmont Station has quite the variety of hop-heavy craft beer and other special releases. We love the neighborhood feel- it's a great place for no-fuss friends to meet up and snag a casual beverage.

Your favorite place in Portland for date night?

Tonya: My bf and I went to PAADEE for our anniversary and I loved it! Or any Thai place! My favorite is Pad Thai Kitchen on Belmont. I also love Por Que No!

Natalie: My fiancé and I work really late, so date nights tend to start at 10 or 11. Our favorite spot for late night dinner and a beer is Horsebrass.  Its been around forever and feels like you’ve been transported to Europe. Their rotating tap list is incredible and they have the best chef salad in the city in my opinion.

Where are some of your favorite places to shop?

Tonya: I love visiting the local plant shops like Pistils Nursery, Solabee Flowers, and Portland Nursery. Plants are my weakness and I love seeing which ones I can add to my collection!

Natalie: I’m a goodwill fanatic, so that’s my number one.  But after that, I’d say Palace for designer clothes and great cookbooks, Appetite for plants and cute vintage, Woonwinkel for my home, and Tender Loving Empire for gifts.

Fauxgerty: Starflower PDX for potted plants and botanical bundles, Mississippi Records for one of a kind compilations, Field Trip, Mister Sister, shop Johan, and of course Powell’s city of books!

A super special shout out to everyone who attended or made our Pop-up in PDX possible. We’re looking at you, Prince Coffee, Natalie Joy Jewelry, and Starflower! Tonya and Andrea, thanks for taking the time out to meet up and chat with us.
